NIHR payment guidance for researchers and professionals

This guidance from the National Institute for Health and Care Research discusses a lot of the issues we deal with in co-production in terms of paying people for their involvement and while it is not specifically co-pro focussed, it is a very helpful guide to policies of this type.

The guidance is contains a list of good practice for payment and recognition and things to consider before you start, including:

  • Developing a payment policy

  • Policy implementation and review

  • Budgeting for involvement

  • Getting started with budgeting

  • What do you need to budget for?

  • Payment rates

  • Potential risks to welfare benefits

  • Payment methods

  • Procedures for the recruitment of people for involvement who are in receipt of state benefits

  • Reward and recognition for children and young people involved in research
